    The Department offers Bachelor (Honors), Masters, MPhil and PhD programs.

    • Undergraduate

      Bachelor of Social Science (BSS) Program

      In each academic session/year, the Anthropology department receives 66 students (20 from Science, 40 Arts and 6 Commerce) through several Admission Tests conducted by the University. After the admission test, students who are qualified get the opportunity to get admission into the Department through several intricate processes. Students who are succeeding, usually get their opportunity to choose their disciplines. Besides, each student must require GPA 3.5 marks in the HSC or B grade in A-level or equivalent examination to get admission into the Anthropology department. After the distribution of disciplines from the social science faculty, students communicate with the department and finish their rest of the process of admission.

    • Graduate

      Masters of Social Science (MSS) Program

      Masters Program in Anthropology covers the requisite courses for the following degrees:

      • Masters (General)
      • Masters (Thesis)
      • Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil.)
      • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

      Any student with a Bachelor degree from SUST is eligible for admission to the Masters program. In each academic session/year, students passing their undergraduate program are promoted to the Masters of Social Science program of the Department. In Masters Program student has to complete 25 credit course work (both general and thesis groups) and 12 credit thesis work (thesis group). For the Masters (Thesis) students, the courses of semester-I will be identical of the Masters (General) students. The graduate studies committee (GSC) will approve the courses of semester-II and the theses for semester-III considering the minimum requirement of 36 credits for the Masters (Thesis) degree. After successful completion of the courses or/and thesis they are awarded with the degree of Masters of Social Sciences in Anthropology.

       

      MPhil

      Any student with a  masters (thesis) CGPA of 3.25 or more from SUST is eligible for admission to the M. Phil program. Candidates for admission from other recognized universities and institutions with a CGPA of 3.25 or more can apply for the M. Phil admission. A candidate who passed under course system and seeks admission to M. Phil  program has to have first class in Masters or 50% marks in Masters and at least 2nd Division in all the public examinations. The candidates for Masters (Thesis) and M.Phil. will be selected for admission after a written and/or viva voce examination conducted by the GSC. Full time teachers of SUST are not required to sit for the admission test. GSC will then recommend the candidates for admission to the academic council through the BAS.

      Ph. D.

      The candidate with masters (thesis), M.Phil degrees are eligible for application for Ph.D. and will be selected after a written and/or Viva-voce examination and the proper evaluation of academic records by the GSC.  A candidate who passed under course system and seeks admission to Ph.D.  program has to have first class in Masters or 50% marks in Masters and at least 2nd Division in all the public examinations. In case of CGPA candidates must obtain at least 3.25 in a scale of 5 or 3.0 on a scale of 4 in all earlier examinations (from S.S.C/ equivalent to graduate/ Post graduate examinations). (i) University teachers with two years teaching experience and one publication in a standard academic journal; (ii) Teachers of colleges with 3 years teaching experience and one publication in a standard academic journal; (iii) researchers of recognized research organizations with 3 years of research experience and at least 3 publications in standard academic journals.
