This department started its journey as the Department of Forestry in 1998 with a group of futurist teachers and students who dreamt of a green Bangladesh. Their hopes spread their wings surmounting their institutional capacity. Those days of struggles are gone by. In 2007, it was renamed as Department of Forestry and Environmental Science (FES). At present it has around 250 students and a total of 14 academic staffs (teacher student ratio 1: 17). It is enriched with a seminar library adorned with a large collection of relevant books, journals, etc., a remote sensing and GIS (Geographical Information System) laboratory, a forest ecology and management laboratory, and a large nursery. International standard researches on a variety of contemporary issues are being conducted by the teachers, and a good number of articles are being published in different national and international peer reviewed journals per year addressing the department. The department produces around 30 graduates and 25 postgraduate each semester of which the best are joining the department, ample students are getting scholarships for higher studies abroad, and the rests are performing well in different competitive examinations. Along with the academic activities the department observes different relevant national and international days, and attends and arranges a number of seminars and extension programmes.
