OUR FOCUSES:
The Department of Political Studies for individual interested in politics, international relation and public administration as well as public affairs.
Political Studies emphasizes on the dynamics of human interaction in which individuals and groups complete to achieve there goals. The study of politics involves a consideration of the interaction between the individual,The state, government, public affairs and public policy. Political Studies examines the dynamics of these interactions in the context of competing visions, values and interest, particularly in the pursuit of varying public goals, including the quest for political power and the control of government Politics is thus both a study of conflict between competing interest and a study of how these competing interest can be achieved through compromise and cooperation.
The Political Studies Department offers courses in three areas:
Political Theory:
The department offers some courses related with political theory that helps us grasp wider significance from the diversity of political ideas and events shaping our present and our future. It also helps the students invest those ideas with new and inspired meaning of the contemporary context.
Global Politics:
The department emphasizes a critical understanding of the many dimensions of globalization: international political economy, peace and security issues, nationalist, foreign policy, democratization, economic integration, political process of South and Southeast Asia, World Politics and the centrality of the European Union, The Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region in refunding world order.
Bangladesh Politics:
We study the basic institutions of government at all the levels, Stressing the emergence of Bangladesh, various movement, urban, race, class, gender and women empowerment issues in the context of low and justice, political economy, constitutional mechanism, regionalism, Bangladesh-rest of the world.
Non-Major
The department also emphasizes on some important interdisciplinary courses (non-major courses but compulsory for all student), which helps; the students to understand the rigorous of social science and boast up their knowledge of political studies. These non-major courses come from Statistics, Economics, Sociology, Social Works, Anthropology, Business Administration, English, Bangla and Computer Science & Engineering discipline.
