    Biography:

    Professor Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed is working as a faculty member of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) since February 2001 and the Dean of School of Applied Sciences and Technology, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh since December 2019. He served as the Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of SUST (from April 2001 to May 2003 and from June 2015 to June 2018) and the Department of Architecture of SUST (from December 2006 to November, 2008).
    Professor Ahmed took his education in Sylhet Govt. Pilot School, Sylhet, Sylhet Cadet College, Sylhet and Peoples’ Friendship University, Moscow, Russia. His BSc degree is on Civil Engineering. He took both Masters and PhD degrees on Structural Engineering. Later he took special trainings on ‘Advanced Numerical Modeling’ and ‘Advanced Mechanics’ in Germany and ‘Techniques for Earthquake Resistant Structures’ in India. Besides, he attended several trainings and short courses on structural and environmental issues, international languages, computer applications, use of technical instruments etc.
    As an earthquake specialist, Professor Ahmed’s main field of research is earthquake engineering. Besides, he has research interest on low cost engineering materials, low cost sanitation, rain water harvesting etc. He has about 36 technical research papers published in peer reviewed international journals, about 15 technical papers published in conference proceedings and many popular articles published in souvenir, magazine, newspapers etc. He is the Chief Editor of JERIE and Editor of SUST Journal of Science and technology. He is reviewer of many renowned journals at home and abroad like Springer, Elsevier, IJEE, JESTEC, SUST Studies, IJWREE, JCECT JSSEM etc. He is member of many professional bodies like IEB, BAPA, NITUB, GWP, BES etc. He is a Member of the ‘National Earthquake Preparedness and Awareness Committee’ of Bangladesh since 2010. He was the member secretary of Admission Committee of SUST in 2001 and 2015. He was the Treasurer of Shahjalal University Teachers’ Association (SUTA) in 2016. Besides Bengali, he knows English, Russian, German languages.
    Professor Ahmed has actively participated in many international conferences and workshops. He was involved in organizing conferences, fairs, and seminars like National Conference on Prospects of Environmental Engineering in Bangladesh- 2001, National Mathematical Olympiad- 2002, Housing and Environment Fair-2005, Specialized Seminar on Sustainable Development and Environment Friendly Building Materials- 2010, International Conference on Environmental Technology and Construction Engineering for Sustainable Development- ICETCESD 2011 and ICETCESD 2012, International Conference on Education, Research and Innovation- CERIE 2011, ICERIE 2013 and ICERIE 2017, ICERIE 2019 etc. Recently he organized ICERIE 2021 as the Chair.

    • MSc in Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) from the Peoples’ Friendship University, Moscow, Russia in 1996. Result: 1st class with Honors.
    • BS. in Civil Engineering from the Peoples’ Friendship University, Moscow, Russia in 1994. Result: 1st class with Honors.
