Biography

Sumaiya Tasnim is a lecturer and statistician, born in 1998. She is also serving as an assistant provost at Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall, SUST. She completed her SSC at Shahjalal Jamia Islamia School and College, Sylhet, and her HSC at Sylhet Government Women's College. Her academic journey began with outstanding achievements at the secondary level, where she earned top results and received merit-based scholarships. She pursued undergraduate and graduate studies in statistics at SUST, graduating first in her class in both the B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Thesis) programs with distinction. After successful completion of her thesis in 2024, she joined as a lecturer in the Department of Statistics at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, in June 2025. Before entering academia, Ms. Tasnim contributed to several national and collaborative research initiatives. She held research positions on various projects from icddr,b, BIGM, and so on. Her scholarly work includes peer-reviewed publications in reputed Scopus-indexed journals. She has developed a keen interest in biostatistics, data science, and applied statistical modeling, with a growing body of research focusing on maternal and child health, nutrition, and predictive analytics in clinical and public health contexts, and is also engaged in systematic reviews.

Ms. Tasnim is proficient in a wide range of statistical and analytical tools, including R, SPSS, STATA, and Python. She was honored with the Best Poster Award at an international academic event and has presented her work at leading conferences on the future of statistics and data science. She aspires to advance knowledge in biostatistics and predictive modelling with a vision to improve data-driven decision-making in health, education, and development.
