I welcome you all to the first International Convention of Vice Chancellors (ICVC) on 6 April 2019 at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh, which is a renowned university with the mark of its magnificent achievements at national and international level. ICVC 2019 will bring the Vice Chancellors of the Universities of the northeastern region of Bangladesh and India under one common umbrella, which would work as a network that will eventually bolster the competitive advantages of the regions from a geo-political perspective. SUST, Sylhet, Bangladesh feel proud to be an inaugural host of the ICVC.

Knowledge is a thing that increases through sharing. Since both the northeastern region of Bangladesh and India share similar geo-social characteristics, it is reasonable that especially the higher educational institutions of these two regions work together to devise proactive developmental instruments. I believe that the universities of both these regions can effectively collaborate and work together on a bilateral basis to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the regions especially in the fields of science and ICT. This bilateral collaboration will surely complement the governmental initiatives for poverty alleviation, human development, and social justice for these two neighboring peoples.

I believe that the ICVC 2019 will open up new frontiers of collaboration and cooperation for the universities of the regions. This event will enable the Vice Chancellors of the participating universities to sit together to pinpoint the potential areas of mutual interest and prospect as well as to figure out the ways and means of effective bilateral collaboration and development. In addition, this event will create opportunities for the participating universities to begin the process of exchanging knowledge and knowhow on a bilateral basis. This will also aid the universities to ensure capacity-building of their academic programs and institutions.

I express my sincere gratitude to co-organizers- University Grant Commission (UGC) and University of Science and Technology Meghalaya, committee members, sponsors, and other members whose sincere efforts are the factors for the success of this convention. I look forward to this convention as a greatest accomplishment.

About

ICVC 2019 is the 1st international convention of Vice Chancellors of North Eastern universities of Bangladesh and India organized by SUST. It will be held on April 06, 2019 at SUST, Sylhet.

This convention will bring Vice Chancellors of universities located in the north eastern part of Bangladesh and India together for sharing the scope of collaboration in teaching, research and innovation. We are expecting attendance of 25 vice chancellors and 400 participants from different universities (home and abroad).

University Grant Commission of Bangladesh and University of Science and Technology (USTM) are co organizers of this memorable event.
