Biography
Dr. Md. Shahabul Haque
has been serving as a faculty member in the Department of Political Studies at
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Sylhet, Bangladesh,
since 2006. Currently, he holds the position of Professor. Dr. Haque earned his
Ph.D. from Beijing Normal University in June 2020 under the Chinese Scholarship
Council (CSC) program, specializing in Education, Leadership, and Policy. His
doctoral dissertation focused on Student Participation in Higher Education
Governance in Bangladesh. Prior to this, he completed a Master's degree in International
Migration and Social Cohesion from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands, in
2012 under the Erasmus Mundus program. His Master's thesis examined the Informal
Social Integration Process of Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh. Additionally, he
holds both a Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS) and a Master of Science (MS) in
Political Science from the University of Dhaka.
Before embarking on his
academic career, Dr. Haque worked as a journalist in Bangladesh, serving as a
Staff Correspondent for The Daily Ittefaq, the country’s oldest
Bengali-language newspaper. As a researcher, Dr.
Haque has contributed extensively to topics such as international and local
migration, governance, education, and national elections in Bangladesh. His
work has been published in numerous journals, including Tertiary Education and management,
International Journal of Doctoral Studies, Developing Country Studies, RSC,
Canadian Social Science, The Jahangirnagar Review, World Voice Nexus,
Cross-Cultural Communication, Asian Profile, Society and Change, Journal of
Politics and Administration, Journal of North East Region, and Asian Journal of
Humanities and Social Studies. To date, he has authored 22 research articles
and a book titled Coalition Politics of Bangladesh: 1954–2014 (in Bengali,
2014).
Dr. Haque has moderated
multiple seminars at the National Press Club and delivered keynote speeches at
various conferences in Bangladesh and abroad. He previously served as the Executive
Editor of the Journal of Politics and Administration (2013–2015) and was the President
of the Dhaka University Journalist Association (DUJA) in 2003–2004. Presently,
he holds the position of General Secretary of the Association of
Bangladesh-China Alumni (ABCA). He is the co-ordinator of the Chinese Corner under the department of Political Studies.
