Overview

The Department of Architecture (ARC) at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), established in 2004, stands as a leading center for architectural education, research, and innovation in Bangladesh. Situated in the serene landscape of Sylhet, the department has been pioneering architectural thought and practice in the north-eastern region and beyond, with a strong commitment to creating a sustainable and culturally responsive built environment.

The Department of Architecture offers a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) program designed to balance creative exploration, theoretical understanding, and hands-on professional skills. The curriculum encourages critical thinking, contextual design, and interdisciplinary collaboration, preparing students to excel in a rapidly evolving global design landscape.

Since its inception, the department has fostered a vibrant academic culture through design studios, research projects, seminars, workshops, and annual exhibitions, where students and faculty showcase innovative architectural solutions to real-world challenges. The department actively engages with international professional bodies such as ARCASIA (Architects Regional Council Asia) and the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA), promoting cross-cultural dialogue and professional exchange.

The Department of Architecture received accreditation from the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) in 2015, ensuring that its graduates meet national and international professional standards. Beyond academics, students play dynamic roles in co-curricular and cultural activities across the SUST campus, nurturing creativity, teamwork, and leadership.

With a vision to inspire responsible design thinking, the Department of Architecture at SUST continues to cultivate architects who are not only skilled professionals but also thoughtful contributors to society, committed to shaping a more sustainable, equitable, and inspiring future.
