Department of Public Administration was conjunct with the department of political studies named as Department of Political Studies & Public Administration (PSA). Almost half of the courses of formerly PSA were about public administration. Due to contemporary job market, demand of skilled manager and the necessity of independent department, the university authority has finally opened a new discipline namely Public Administration in 2005. The 1st batch honors students of the department start classes from November 11, 2006 in the session 2005-2006. Amongst from the faculty members in the department of PSA having Public Administration background started to conduct classes of this department. This department opened MSS programme in 2007 with 21 students. The courses in Bachelor and Master Degrees are well designed keeping in mind the necessity of the academic knowledge and the contemporary job markets in home and abroad. The courses cover a wide variety of theoretical and applied knowledge on public administration such as government and governance, public policy, administrative reforms, organization theories and behavior, human resources, strategic and project management, financial administration, organizational leadership, environmental management, gender development, administrative law, local, rural and regional studies, social research and private sector management etc. The MSS programme has been designed based on contemporary knowledge on administration and international standard through studying course contents of overseas reputed universities. The main aim of designing courses of the department of Public Administration is to prepare the students to be success for the contemporary competitive world including the civil service in Bangladesh. Private sector has emerged as an important sector over the years and requires huge number of skilled manpower for the socio-economic progress of the country. The department of Public Administration is committed to produce skilled manpower to meet the demand of private sector. Therefore, courses have been designed accordingly. Some of courses such as English, Bangla, Anthropology, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Computer and database, basic programming, Statistics etc. have been included in the undergraduate programme so that students can acquire necessary knowledge from these fields. These courses are highly useful to students for all practical purposes. There is a provision of field work for internship undergraduate student. The department also assigns the students in different government, semi-government, non-government and even private organizations to work on particular aspect and then prepare a paper for presentation. Thus, from very beginning the students get opportunity to know the way an organization runs as well as works. Masters students gain significant knowledge on research as they have to complete research monograph/ thesis during student career. The existing faculty members are highly skilled and also committed to meet the aims of the department. The teachers have ability to well establish academic relationship with the students and deliver what they need for the students’ benefit. Mission The curriculum of public administration program is designed to provide students with the highest quality education on administration in preparation for careers, or advancement of careers in public, non-profit, and service oriented organizations.
